The Florida High School Water Polo Season Round UP

We want to congratulate our many incredible student-athletes on the unbelievable seasons that they had throughout their various high school teams across the Miami, Broward and West Palm Beach areas.

Cypress Bay High School - lead by several South Florida WPC athletes, Cypress Bay earned a the #6-seed headed into the regional championship where they would unfortunately be taken down by #3-regionally ranked Alonzo Tracy Mourning High School to finish with a 11-6 record.

  • Lorenzo Munizaga (So.), Goalkeeper - 2026 season stats: 112 saves, 1 assist and 1 goal scored. A first-year goalkeeper, Lorenzo is quickly rising as one of the premier shot stoppers in the Broward region through his impressive work ethic.

  • Horus Chan (Sr.), Attacker - 2026 season stats: 34 goals, 11 assists and 2 steals. Horus brought impressive physicality and a powerful shooting arm to the Cypress Bay Lightning which saw him convert at a two goals per game ratio in the 17 games Horus played in.

  • David Valdiviezo (So.), Attacker - 2026 season stats: 13 goals, 7 assists and 7 steals. A young attacker for Cypress Bay, David proved himself to be a rising two-way player who can contribute both on offense and on defense in his 13 games played.

Northeast High School - one of the most historic teams in Florida high school water polo, the Northeast Hurricanes were the champions of the very first two FHSAA men’s Florida water polo state championships in 2005 and 2006. However, after the talent pool at the high school had dried up, Northeast would revive their program a few years ago and come out roaring this season with their most successful season in over a decade. A 17-4 record saw the program compete against and nearly take down several of the traditional powerhouse programs in the state as the Hurricanes stormed to a regional semifinal appearance.

  • Magnus Warywoda (Sr.), Attacker - 2026 season stats: 56 goals, 24 assists and 6 steals. Due to lack of stats keeping, Magnus’ previous seasons stats are not available on MaxPreps, however, Magnus was a vital and key figure in the revival of one of Florida’s most historic programs at Northeast High School. With a strong cast of players from a number of high schools, Magnus would see the Hurricanes’ program go from a non-competing program in his freshman season to regional semifinalists in his senior season.

  • Diesel Warywoda (So.), Center/Center Defender - 2026 season stats: 71 goals, 25 assists and 10 steals. The big center/center defender combo player provided a massive presence for the Northeast Hurricanes as they would prove themselves to be one of the Broward region’s top programs for the 2026 season.

  • Matthew Orsini (Sr.), Attacker - 2026 season stats: 30 goals, 34 assists and 10 steals. The Nova High School student would find himself joined by several other Nova athletes who no longer had a team and would team up with Magnus and Diesel on Northeast, one of the better shooters in the region, Matthew provided Northeast with a stabilizing perimeter threat to alleviate the pressure off the team’s elite centers.

  • Timothy Thompson (Sr.), Attacker - 2026 seasons stats: 11 goals, 8 assists and 1 steal. Another Nova High School athlete, Tim would provide valuable bench minutes for the Hurricanes when his number was called.

  • Juan Lopez (Sr.), Center Defender - 2026 season stats: 50 goals, 68 assists and 21 steals. A Coral Springs High School student, Juan joined Northeast’s squad after two seasons competing for Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School where he proved to be one of the most productive athletes in the state in his sophomore and junior seasons. Juan provided Northeast with a big presence in center defense along with vision of the pool and a strong perimeter shooting arm.

  • Ayden Sandoval (Sr.), Attacker - 2026 season stats: 14 goals, 18 assists and 9 steals. The third Nova High School student in the Northeast ranks, Ayden also provided important minutes off the bench for the Oakland-based squad.

Magnus Warywoda (Senior, Northeast High School), competing for South Florida WPC at the most recent South Florida WPC’s International Tournament.

Miami Country Day School - the Spartans would see their rise in the Florida water polo scene continue as they would once again arrive at the regional championship game, a 16-10 record would see them highlight their season when they would take down the reigning state champions, Westminster Academy with a 16-15 score. Led by their golden generation of seniors, the Spartans cemented themselves as one of the state’s premier programs.

  • Evan Miller (Sr.), Utility - 2026 season stats: 49 goals, 31 assists, 37 steals, 19 exclusions and penalties drawn. Evan finishes his high school career with 229 goals, 130 assists (259 points), 77 steals, 111 exclusions and penalties drawn. Evan was the spear of Miami Country Day’s golden generation that took the up and coming program to four straight regional championship title games.

  • Max Possin (Sr.), Utility - 2026 season stats: 59 goals, 48 assists, 36 steals, 19 exclusions and penalties drawn. Max finishes his high school playing career with 189 goals, 138 assists (327 points), 94 steals, 62 exclusions and penalties draw. Max provided a stable presence for the Spartans in all four years and was a focal figure in the success of Miami Country Day’s greatest seasons.

  • Leonardo Blaya (Sr.), Attacker - 2026 season stats: 42 goals, 32 assists, 32 steals, 22 exclusions drawn. Leo ends his high school career with 147 goals, 118 assists (265 points), 68 steals, 87 exclusions and penalties drawn. A crafty attacker, Leo proved crucial for Miami Country Day as he would provide high-level positional play across multiple positions for the Spartans.

  • Rafael Blaya (Jr.), Goalkeeper - 2026 season stats: 281 saves, 24 steals, 28 assists and 1 goal scored. Rafa ends his 2026 campaign ranked #2 in the state in saves and provided a cement wall in between the pipes for the Spartans as they continue their rise to be one of the premier programs in the state.

  • Franco Pastor (Jr.), Center - 2026 season stats: 21 goals, 2 assists, 11 steals, 11 exclusions and penalties drawn. Franco provided a powerful presence at the center position for the Spartans that allowed them to play with one of the most balanced lineups in the state.

Saint Thomas Aquinas High School, Girls Water Polo - the Lady Raiders saw the program once again climb to the top, spearheaded by senior veteran and reigning Broward Player of the Year, Riley Andres, as well as freshman phenom, Viktoria Konnikov, the 19-9 Lady Raiders proved themselves resilient in a tough regional championship tournament, as they would earn their place in the state championship tournament.

  • Riley Andres (Sr.), Attacker - 2026 season stats: 282 goals, 68 assists, 118 steals, 60 exclusions and penalties drawn. Finishes her high school career with 627 goals, 152 assists (779 points), 278 steals and 200 exclusions and penalties drawn. In her final year at STA, Riley would spearhead the Lady Raiders’ success as they would once again return to the state championship tournament.

  • Viktoria Konnikov (Fr.), Attacker - 2026 season stats: 99 goals, 41 assists 46 steals, 3 exclusions and penalties drawn. In her first year playing for STA, Vika proved herself to be one of the focal points as she nearly eclipsed the triple digit goal count on the way to a state championship semifinal appearance

  • Stella Tomasello (So.), Attacker - 2026 season stats: 22 goals, 16 assists, 25 steals and 1 exclusion drawn. A year of development for Stella once she joined South Florida Water Polo Club proved crucial in her steps forward to becoming a viable role player for the Lady Raiders in their incredible season to reach the state semifinals.

Boca Raton High School - The Boca Bobcats are still in a recovery and rebuild phase after several successful years delivered by former club athletes, Max Zelikov and Gregory Nordheim, Boca would take their 9-6 record to their regional championship tournament after a strong showing within the West Palm Beach area where they proved to still be one of the more dominant teams in the region.

  • Benjamin Gober (Fr.), Attacker - 2026 season stats: 30 goals and 6 steals. Benny brought his impressive athletic build as a big contribution to Boca High, using his long arms and powerful shot, he would prove to be instrumental as a young freshman converting several important goals throughout the season.

Cardinal Gibbons High School - the 2026 season was a tough one for Cardinal Gibbons, a 4-12 record would see them unfortunately knocked out in the districts stage of the playoffs.

  • Stellan Adams-Silinsky (Jr.), Goalkeeper - 2026 season stats: Unfortunately, Stellan’s stats are not properly provided per MaxPreps, however, Stellan proved over the course of the season that he is one of the elite goalkeepers in the Broward region regardless of the team’s record.

Two-time FHSAA State Champion, John Corbett (Senior, Saint Thomas Aquinas HS), competing for South Florida WPC at the most recent South Florida WPC’s International Tournament.

Saint Thomas Aquinas High School, Men’s Water Polo - the STA Raiders once again saw themselves in the winner circle, just as they had in 2013 and 2023 in past seasons, the men’s program led by head coach and our club director, Michael Goldenberg, would be crowned as the FHSAA men’s water polo state champions after defeating Ransom Everglades in the state championship finals and securing a 26-4 record on the season.

  • Sam Eastaugh (Sr.), Attacker - 2026 season stats: 104 goals, 83 assists, 44 steals, 11 field blocks, 77 exclusions and penalties drawn. Lead state in points (goals and assists), lead the state in assists. Finished high school career with 323 goals, 237 assists (560 points), 176 steals, 20 field blocks, 212 exclusions and penalties drawn. Captain of the state championship STA Raiders, scored five goals in the state championship game, will be continuing his water polo career next fall at the University of the Pacific.

  • Lev Konnikov (Sr.), Center - 2026 season stats: 120 goals, 26 assists, 39 steals, 22 field blocks, 41 exclusions and penalties drawn. Finished season ranked #3 in goals in state and #5 in points (goals and assists). Finished high school career with 390 goals, 83 assists (473 points), 187 steals, 62 field blocks, 117 exclusions and penalties drawn. Captain of the state championship STA Raiders, scored a hat-trick in the state championship game.

    Holden Harkins (Sr.), Center Defender - 2026 season stats: 55 goals, 49 assists, 26 steals, 15 field blocks, 8 exclusions and penalties drawn. Finished his high school career with 186 goals, 137 assists (323 points), 117 steals, 42 field blocks, 43 exclusions and penalties drawn. Holden exits the high school stage as a six-time state champion in football and water polo (four state championships with STA football, two with STA water polo).

  • John Corbett (Sr.), Attacker - 2026 season stats: 21 goals, 35 assists, 34 steals, 8 field blocks, 17 exclusions and penalties drawn. Finished high school career with 46 goals, 75 assists (121 points), 80 steals, 13 field blocks, 27 exclusions and penalties drawn. A lifelong high level swimmer, John made the decision after the 2025 water polo season to make the switch to water polo full-time, the switch paid off with his second state championship.

  • Matthew Lapin (So.), Attacker - 2026 season stats: 55 goals, 26 assists, 55 steals, 21 field blocks, 17 exclusions and penalties drawn. Moving from California to join the STA Raiders, Matt proved to be a defensive stalwart for the Broward-based squad leading them in steals and second in field blocks, he also provided an offensive punch being third on the team in goals.

  • Marcell Varhalmi (Jr.), Goalkeeper - 2026 season stats: 274 saves, 41 steals, 15 assists and 4 goals scored. Marcell once again proved himself to be the premier shot-stopper in the state as he ranked #4 in the state in saves along with multiple superhuman performances throughout the season, including 18 saves, 3 steals, 1 assist and 1 goal scored against Seminole High School in the state championship semifinal.

  • Jake Corbett (Fr.), Attacker - 2026 season stats: 17 goals, 15 assists, 20 steals, 3 field blocks, 9 exclusions and penalties drawn. In his first year for Saint Thomas Aquinas, Jake proved to be a valuable engine off the bench, providing several crucial contributions throughout the season including a massive goal in the regional championship game.

    Andres Leon (So.), Attacker - 2026 season stats: 7 goals, 10 assists, 10 steals, 1 earned exclusion or penalty. Andres continues on his path of development, having begun to only play a year ago, Andres proved vital in for the STA Raiders as a player off the bench as well as providing a strong work ethic at practice to push his fellow teammates to further success.
